THE MINISTERS OF JUSTICE IN PORTUGUESE AMERICA: THE MAGISTRATES IN COLONIAL ADMINISTRATION (18TH CENTURY)

This paper proposes a reflection about the role of general ombudsmen and judges from outside government as primarily responsible for justice in Portuguese America. It intends to dimension the spaces of jurisdiction of the magistrates, through an analysis of its powers, duties and functions accumulations within the general scope of the administrative organization of counties.
