A WORK TEACHING AND MANY DIFFERENT VERSIONS

Abstract

The text compares different publications of didactic material of José Corrêa Estacio de Sá e Benevides, a history professor of the Normal School of São Paulo, who taught between 1880 and 1914. The first publication was in 1902, in a magazine for teachers; the second in 1903 in textbook format by the publisher Typografia Andrade & Mello; the third, undated identification, a new book by the publisher N. Falcone & Comp.; and the fourth, in 1912, published by Editora Francisco Alves. The structures of the texts, some content, the conception of history and some dialogue between the author and his bibliography are analyzed. In a context of dominance of world history, with sacred history content, the author organized materials focusing on the history of civilization, claiming to be a more modern version of the history. But his work conflicts expressed a moment of transition, with new trends in teaching and religious beliefs of Brazilian society.
