Abstract
The document “Relação da Marcha que fiz para o Cuyaté pela Nova Estrada (...)” [March relationship I did for Cuyaté through the New Road] was written by Minas Gerais captaincy governor, d. Antonio de Noronha, in October, 1779. The “Relação” integrates a set of documents sent to the Navy and Overseas Business secretary, Martinho de Mello e Castro, named “Copia das providencias que se derão para a nova Conquista do Cuyeté” [Copy of the measures that shall be taken to the Cuyeté new conquest]. Through the report analysis is possible to reflect about the written culture of the Portuguese-Brazilian Empire politic relationship - establishingthe intrinsic connection of the control through writing in the modern period. Therefore, this article presents summary reflections about writing practices and documental preservation of the overseas government, followed by an edition of the “Relaçaõ da Marcha” [March Description], accompanying notes related to the document and its materiality.
