Abstract
The present study aims to analyze the manuscript codex with the translation of Henriada, by Voltaire, made by the doctor Thomaz de Aquino Bello e Freitas, in the captaincy of Minas Gerais, in 1788. The primitive version of this translation, disappeared for two centuries, was sent to the Real Comissão Geral sobre o Exame e Censura de Livros in 1789, where it was given the print license, followed by the order to suppress the book, in 1790. The original codex, recently identified, presents a set of ideas and expressions which make it possible to revisit the circulation of Illustration ideas among intellectual circles in Vila Rica on the eve of Inconfidência Mineira.
