ABSTRACT
The pioneering nature of the studies on artistic production in the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Artes Visuais da Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo (PPGAV/ECA/USP), created in 1974, and the large number of artist-researchers in the various programs currently developing artist research, make the Brazilian case one of the first and more consistent in the world, next to the British and Japanese examples. The purpose of this paper is to bring the pioneering nature of Brazilian “pesquisa em arte” closer to the recent phenomenon of artistic research.
