“Northeasternness”: circulation, legitimation and institutionalization art narratives

ABSTRACT

Questioning identities legitimation, we’ll discuss the use of narratives about “nordestinidade” (“northeasternness”) in the production, circulation and institutionalization of 20th century Pernambuco’s arts. We’ll analyze how events and works take identities narratives and counter-narratives. We’ll emphasize both works next to Gilberto Freyre regionalism type, as well as counter-narratives that suspend the automatic relation between Northeastern artists production and regionalism, proposed by artists such as Camelo group and by curators such as Moacir dos Anjos.
