The first issue of the 2016 Volume of the IBRACON Structures and Materials Journal (Volume 9 Number 1 February 2016) is now published. The issue begins with a study of reinforced concrete columns strengthened by partial jacketing and tested in combined compression and bending. A second article presents an analytical model for evaluation of reinforced beams, based on recommendations of the Brazilian Concrete Code (NBR-6118) and a study published by the International Federation of Concrete (fib). The objective of the thrid article is to use a particle packing analytical model (Compressible Packing Model) to verify the maximum packing density of cement and silica fume, which could be associated with the optimum content of silica fume in pastes. The fourth article addresses the potential reactivity of granitic rocks to alkalis. The study involves granites collected from different regions in Portugal, from which eight samples have their test results analyzed. The tests include the petrographic analyses of the aggregates and mortar and concrete expansion tests. Another article addresses the performance of pervious concrete with aggregates from recycled constructions and demolition waste. The sixth article analyzes, through a case study, the innovative application of 3D laser scanning technology on the façade of a building to map the surface flatness and, in an unprecedented manner, to quantify the volume of mortar. The last article is intended to analyze the structural behavior of reinforced concrete beams strengthened in bending with carbon fiber reinforced polymer, without using any anchoring system for fibers, varying steel reinforcement and the amount of fiber reinforcement layers.

We acknowledge authors and reviewers for their contribution to this issue.
