National graduate policy and its relations with Social Work

This article discusses the foundations and guidelines of Brazilian graduate studies policy for the period from 2011-2020 and their implications for Social Work. It analyzes the logic that guides the government initiatives for graduate work, highlighting their influence on the dynamic, functioning and strategic social direction of the profession. It locates graduate work in a context of growing commercialization of education and a strong offensive by conservative thinking against all of social life. This thinking is expressed in the affirmation of pragmatism and in attempts to deconstruct a historical-critical professional culture.
