This article discusses transgenerational psychic transmission and the repetition of psychosomatic disorders inside the family. For this purpose, the author brings up aspects of important psychoanalytic concepts involving the topic of psychic transmission, including foundations of psychoanalytic psychosomatics. The article also discusses a clinical case in which a patient developed breast cancer: this disease is thus characterized as a form of maintaining a family tradition.
