This article was presented at a clinical meeting of the Porto Alegre Psychoanalytical Association entitled "The Path of Cure in Drug Addictions: the Subject at Issue, " held in October, 2003. Starting with a discussion of a clinical case, this article treats the importance of the relationship that exists between the subjects fantasy and object choice in drug addiction. The article also discusses drug addiction as a symptom of contemporary society, and the aesthetic aspects that comprise it.
