The psychopathology of the pandemic: literature, science and politics

The context of the current pandemic reminds us not only of the plagues of the past, but also questions us about the possible social changes that may take place in the future. In the history of Western literature, we come across several accounts on the impact of these scourges experienced by humanity in the form of fictional narratives. In these, the metaphorical form resizes psychopathology in the face of helplessness. Western modernity is also marked by the discourse of science, its remarkable progress, but also its ideals, its ambitions and even its limits, which are now current again, just as events such as the 2020 pandemic were deemed fictitious or overcome. This article addresses the relationship between literature and science, revealing the political and psychopathological dimensions of global events in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.
