Open-access Psychoanalysis in the face of the social acceleration of time: temporal experience and psychic suffering

Abstract

This paper reflects psychoanalytically on the relationship between psychological suffering and the transformations in the temporal structures of modernity. Through the theoretical constructs of psychoanalysis in relation to the temporality of the subject, a dialogue is tensioned with the theory of the social acceleration of time developed by the sociologist Hartmut Rosa when problematizing the transformations in temporal structures in the field of culture. Thus, it reflects on the etiological relationship between the social acceleration of time and the field of psychopathology, suggesting the importance of psychoanalysis looking into the subject.
