Hysteria and the sexual as a spectacle: reflections on psychoanalysis and photography based on the work of Georges Didi-Huberman

Resumos

This paper focuses on the relationships between psychoanalysis and photography, stemming from the Photographic Service of the Salpêtrière, where Freud did a research internship in 1886 with Jean-Martin Charcot. Drawing significantly on the work of Georges Didi-Huberman, the purpose of this paper is to show how photography might be useful to a psychoanalytic investigation – starting with Salpêtrière, with all its importance in the history of psychoanalysis, which relevance becomes particularly evident when we consider the Salpêtrière´s photographic iconography.
