Solution combustion synthesis of LiCoO2 nanoparticles

ABSTRACT

Lithium Cobalt Oxide (LiCoO2) nanoparticles were obtained by the Solutions Combustion Synthesis method, using starch as fuel. Four starch/nitrates ratios (φe) (ranging 0.5-1.25) have been studied. One route was a conventional, stoichiometric process, while the other ones were a nonstoichiometric process. The samples were calcined in air at 773K. The synthesized material was analyzed by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, electrochemical charge-discharge and rate capability curves. It was identified that in all cases, powders exhibited rhombohedral crystalline structure. The powders obtained in four reactions exhibited good electrochemical performance.
