Flora of Ceará, Brazil: Ebenaceae.

Abstract

We present the floristic survey of Ebenaceae occurring in the state of Ceará, as part of the Project “Flora do Ceará: knowing to conserve”. The study was based on the comparative analysis of morphological characters of the specimens from Herbaria ASE, EAC, HCDAL, HUEFS, HUVA, INPA, MAC and UB, from samples obtained during fieldwork, specialized bibliography, and images of collections-types. The family is represented in the state by the genus Diospyros, with three species: D. coccolobifolia, D. inconstans subsp. and D. sericea. The species are disjunct, restricted or widely distributed in Ceará territory’s and occur in Savanna (Cerrado), Stepic Savanna (Caatinga), Seasonal Decidual Forest (Mata Seca), Semi-deciduous Lowland Forest (Mata de Tabuleiro), Vegetation with Marine Influence (Restinga), and Ombrophyllous Dense Forest (Mata úmida). The three species were recorded in Conservation Units in state.
