Richterago (Asteraceae, Gochnatieae) in the central portion of the Espinhaço Range in Minas Gerais, Brazil

The species of Richterago are endemic to the "campos rupestres" of Brazil, and occur mainly on rocky soils. This study presents a taxonomic treatment of Richterago Kuntze (Asteraceae) found in the central portion of the Espinhaço Range in Minas Gerais state, located in the municipalities of Congonhas do Norte (south), Olhos d'Água and Bocaiúva (north), including Serra do Cabral (west) and Diamantina Plateau (east). Specimens were collected from November 2009 to June 2012, and were deposited at the herbarium DIAM. Duplicates were sent to the herbaria ALCB, HUFU and SPF. Specimens from the herbaria HUFU and SPF were also studied. Morphological analysis and identifications were made based on available literature and consultation with taxonomic specialists. The genus is represented by eight species: Richterago amplexifolia (Gardner) Kuntze, R. angustifolia (Gardner) Roque, R. arenaria (Baker) Roque, R. conduplicata Roque, R. discoidea (Less.) Kuntze, R. elegans Roque, R. polyphylla (Baker) Ferreyra and R. radiata (Vell.) Roque. An identification key, descriptions, illustrations, and additional information on geographic distribution and conservation status of the species are presented.
