ABSTRACT
The study of 12 species, 1 variety and 3 forms of the Bredemeyera Willd. is presented in this work. This genus of the Polygalaceae is distinguished by its biloculate capsule, generally oblong-cuneate and two seeds oblong, pubescent, pendulous and with a small carunculus. From the carunculus extend tuft of long hairs which can reach the far end of the loculo.
The Brazilian species are described and illustred. Also given is the degree of affinity among species. 3 new synonyms and 3 forms were added to the older systematic treatment of this genus resolving several taxonomic problems.
