Octomeria (Orchidaceae: Pleurothallidinae) in Paraná state, Brazil

Abstract

Octomeria (Orchidaceae: Pleurothallidinae) comprises ca. 150 Neotropical species, of which 95 occur in Brazil. Based on fieldwork and study of Brazilian and foreign herbaria 21 taxa are here recognized for Paraná. Octomeria lilliputana was shown to be endemic to the state and Octomeria leptophylla a new record. The genus is recorded all over the state, especially in the “Planície Litorânea” and “Primeiro Planalto.” Following the IUCN criteria, five species are classified in category “CR”, nine in category “EN”, two in category “NT’, “LC” and “DD”, and one of them, Octomeria concolor, is considered presumably extinct (“EW”) in the state. Two new synonyms are proposed: Octomeria hatschbachii as a synonym of Octomeria chamaeleptotes, and Octomeria caetensis as a synonym of Octomeria palmyrabellae. Lectotypes are selected for Octomeria chamaeleptotes and Octomeria hatschbachii. A key for species identification, descriptions, illustrations, taxonomic discussions, list of specimens examined, distribution data and conservation status for all taxa are herein provided.
