Guatteria (Annonaceae) of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest

Guatteria Ruiz et Pav. is the largest genus of Annonaceae, with 307 species of neotropical distribution. Its uniform reproductive and variable vegetative features make species characterization difficult. As a result from the present study, 15 species of Guatteria from the Atlantic Forest are recognized, G. australis, G. campestris, G. candolleana, G. emarginata, G. ferruginea, G. latifolia, G. macropus, G. oligocarpa, G. pogonopus, G. pohliana, G. sellowiana, G. schomburgkiana, G. stenocarpa, G. tomentosa and G. villosissima. Eigth names are synonymized and two lectotypes are designated. Key, descriptions, taxonomic comments, phenological information, geographical distribution, habitats of occurrence, conservation status and illustrations are provided.
