Terminalia s.s. (Combretaceae) of Piauí state, Brazil

Abstract

This work presents the floristic-taxonomic treatment of the Terminalia species occurring in the state of Piauí. The study was based on the analysis of exsicates deposited in national and international herbaria, as well as field observations. Seven species were recorded for the state: Terminalia actinophylla, T. amazonia, T. argentea, T. eichleriana, T. fagifolia, T. glabrescens and T. lucida, being two endemic of Brazil. The taxa were recorded in dry environments of Savanna (cerrado) and Estepic Savanna (caatinga). We highlight 57% (4 spp.) of the Terminalia species occur in conservation units of Piauí. The study provides morphological descriptions, identification key, photographic plates, illustrations and comments on species.
