  • COMPOSIÇÃO FLORÍSTICA DO PARQUE NACIONAL SERRA DA CAPIVARA, PIAUÍ, BRASIL Articles

    Lemos, Jesus Rodrigues

ABSTRACT Of the great Brazilian biomes, the caatinga is one of the most poorly known from the floristic and phytogeografic point of view. In Piauí state, this biome covers about 37% of its territory, with only one conservation unit, the Serra da Capivara National Park. This work aims at listing the species collected in the Park area. With that objective, a survey was made of the material collected in the area deposited in the Herbarium "Graziela Barroso" of the Universidade Federal do Piauí - TEPBIUFPI, in adittion to samples resultant from collection in two geomorphologic units (sedimentary lands and crystalline soil) during a two year period. It was registered a total of 210 species distributed in 149 genus and 62 families. The families with greater diversity were Caesalpiniaceae, Fabaceae, Mimosaceae, Bignoniaceae, Euphorbiaceae and Myrtaceae totalling 46% of the species. It was verified that the heterogeneity of the physical environment influences in the distribution of species in the different biotypes of the area. As far as the semi-arid region as a whole is concerned, it was observed that, except for a small group of species, there is floristic similarity between the study area with other areas of caatinga in Brazil's Northeastern native semi-arid, whether installed in sedimentary lands or on crystalline soil.

  • Myrceugenia (Myrtaceae) ocorrentes no Parque Nacional do Itatiaia, Rio de Janeiro Articles

Lima, William Gomes; Guedes-Bruni, Rejan R

D. Legrand & Kausel; M campestris (DC.) D. Legrand & Kausel; M cucullata D. Legrand; M glaucescens var. latior Burret (Landrum); M miersiana (Gardner) D. Legrand & Kausel, M ovata var. regnelliana (O. Berg) Landrum e M seriatoramosa (Kiaersk.) D. Legrand & Kausel.

ABSTRACT A morphological and taxonomic analysis of the species of Myrceugenia O. Berg (Myrtaceae) in Itatiaia National Park, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was carried out. In addition to determining the species present in the Park, the usefulness of vegetative and floral characters as diagnostic tools was evaluated. The study includes descriptions, an identification key, observations made in the field and from herbarium collections. Eight taxa were identified: Myrceugenia alpigena (DC.) Landrum var. alpigena; M bracteosa (DC.) D. Legrand & Kausel; M campestris (DC.) D. Legrand & Kausel; M cucullata D. Legrand; M glaucescens var. latior Burret (Landrum); M miersiana (Gardner) D. Legrand & Kausel, M seriatoramosa (Kiaersk.) M ovata var. regnelliana (O. Berg) Landrum and M. seriatoramosa (Kiaersk.) D. Legrand & Kausel. Diagnostic characters found useful were the shapes of the inflorescence, the flower bud, the prophyll and the calyx-lobes, as well as the presence or absence of an intramarginal vein. Vegetative characters alone are not diagnostic to distinguish the species of Myrceugenia in the Park. Two new occurrences for the state of Rio de Janeiro were registered: M campestris and M cucullata.

ABSTRACT This study consists of the taxonomy, with the use of field observations, to distinguish among taxa of Swartzia occuring in the “Reserva Natural da Companhia Vale do Rio Doce”. Besides the key to identify and the detailed descriptions to each one of the eight taxa detected in this study we present observations on the size, internal and external aspects on the bark, with photographs of all taxa, where we attributed patterns of external bark to all of them. S. apetala var. apetala is found in all different habitats present in the studied site, while S. acutifolia, S. apetala var. glabra, S. linharensis, S. myrtifolia var. elegans, and S. simplex var. ochnacea are found just in the “Floresta Alta de Terra Firme” and S. macrostachya var. macrostachya, in the area focused here, is exclusive of the “Campo Nativo”. S. myrtifolia var. elegans and S. simplex var. ochnacea are the only taxa that do not have bark that peels off.
