Profile of elderly patient referenced to the doctor's office dental Instituteof Jenny de Andrade Faria HC/UFMG

INTRODUCTION: With increasing life expectancy, public health measures should be planned and implemented to ensure care for the elderly population. In this context, we can cite the oral health as an important factor in ensuring well being and quality of life. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify the profile of geriatric patients referring to the dental office of the Institute of Jenny de Andrade Faria HC / UFMG. MATERIAL AND METHOD: This was a cross-sectional and descriptive study by collecting data from medical records of 48 patients. RESULT: The results showed that this population is composed mostly of women, who have systemic involvement, most is under the use of polypharmacy and the rate of edentulous patients is high. CONCLUSION: There is need to insert the dental surgeon in the multidisciplinary team that is able to take care of complex patients, as well as the installation of equipment for dental treatment to be carried out effectively in the office of the institution itself.
