RELIABILITY OF ICE AND TETRAFLUOROETHANE FOR DETERMINING DENTAL PULP VITALITY

The aim of this study was to verify the ability of ice and tetrafluoroethane in detecting pulp vitality in 2,420healthy human teeth from patients with ages between 20 and 30years. The data obtained allow the following conclusions: tetrafluoroethane was significantly (p<0.01) more reliable when compared with ice stick for detecting dental pulp vitality. Reliability of tetrafluoroethane according to region was, in decreasing order: lower incisors, lower canines, upper bicuspids, lower bicuspids, upper molars, upper incisors, upper canines, lower molars. Ice stick reliability, in decreasing order, was: lower incisors, upper incisors, upper bicuspids, upper canines, lower canines, lower bicuspids, upper molars, lower molars.
