In this article the authors present the development of the Portuguese-language version of a scale intended to evaluate the manic state: Bech-Rafaelsen Mania Rating Scale (BRMaS). The BRMaS was created in order to assist the clinician to evaluate a manic patient in a semi-structured interview. This article provides the scientific community with an important instrument to rate manic presentations in native speakers of Portuguese.
