Abstract: The objective of this paper is to analyze the way in which the approximation between the military and the religious was constituted in the context of Operation São Francisco - the military occupation of Maré, a Rio neighborhood made up of sixteen slums, which lasted from April 2014 to June 2015 - and contribute to reflections on the relationship between religion, pacification and militarization. Thus, from Rio de Janeiro, I intend to discuss how military and religious, more specifically Pentecostal evangelicals, articulated themselves in the production of a “pacified” city.
