The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God in the Angola’s National Rebuilding

Abstract: In Angola, religions must be legitimized by the State to operate and maintain temples. Legal recognition does not guarantee a permanent condition for its exercise, which is conditioned to the disputes between different powers and actors. The aim of this study is to debate how the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God and its believers are aligned with post-war national reconstruction proposals, as from the analysis of the prohibition of Islam and episodes that temporarily suspended Universal. The study data come from fieldwork (2010-2011); monitoring the Church’s digital media and the official Angolan news agency (2008-2014); updating news about Universal in Angola and the debate about the legislation that regulates religions in the country (2018-2019).
