The Soul as a Public Problem: Spirituality and Health in the US panorama

Abstract: Although the role of spirituality in health care has been a key issue in many epistemological, clinical and institutional contexts around the world lately, this article seeks to show how this phenomenon was rooted in the American public life in the 2000’s. The research corpus is based on interviews, press media contents, scientific divulgation books and documents from public and private organizations, concerning the American panorama in that decade. By inquiring these sources, I seek to make visible how the relationship between spirituality and health has become a regular topic of public debates, as well as the sponsoring practices that have fostered this alliance.
