Nas últimas décadas, temos presenciado o surgimento de uma Antropologia do Cristianismo. Destacam-se, nesse campo emergente, as seguintes questões-chave: 1) o papel do Cristianismo em esforços de promoção de mudança social; 2) o caráter distintivo das interpretações Cristãs sobre a linguagem; 3) a tendência do Cristianismo a fomentar o individualismo. Este artigo oferece um relato sintético desses precessos considerando como as diversas interpretações cristãs da tensão entre transcendência e mundano conformam as maneiras pelas quais diversas igrejas lidam com essas questões.Resumo em Inglês:
The last decade has seen the rise of the Anthropology of Christianity. Key issues in this emerging field have been 1) the role of Christianity in fostering efforts to bring about radical cultural change; 2) the distinctiveness of Christian understandings of language; and 3) the tendency of Christianity to foster individualism. This article offers a synthetic account of these developments through a consideration of how varying Christian understandings of the tension between the transcendent and the mundane shape the ways different churches handle these issues.Resumo em Português:
O presente artigo visa a questionar a ideia muito difundida, mas pouco discutida, de que o Brasil teria experimentado, sob a égide da Constituição de 1891, um período de forte laicização, com uma separação rígida entre Estado e religião nas mais diversas esferas, de modo que o modelo de aproximação entre esses dois domínios (em particular no âmbito da religião católica) adotado pela Constituição seguinte (de 1934) teria sido uma resposta a tal experiência. Assumir essa premissa, como tem feito a doutrina, implicaria reconhecer que um modelo de separação entre Estado e religião já foi efetivamente experimentado e rejeitado na história constitucional brasileira, o que de certa forma poderia legitimar o modelo de aproximação que teria sido adotado em 1934 e mantido, em linhas gerais, até os dias de hoje. Apontar os equívocos dessa leitura, por outro lado, permite compreender que no Brasil sempre houve uma forte aproximação entre Estado e religião, prática que teve como resultado a instituição de uma ideia frágil de laicidade que hoje tem sido duramente questionada.Resumo em Inglês:
The present article aims to question the widespread (but not discussed) idea that Brazil would have experimented, under the Constitution of 1891, a period of strong secularism, with a rigid separation between State and religion in many different areas, in a manner that a model of approximation between these two spheres (specially with the Catholic religion) adopted by the next Constitution (1934) would have been a kind of an answer to such experience. Assuming this premise, as the doctrine has done, would imply to recognize that a model of separation between State and religion has already been experimented and rejected in brazilian constitutional history, which could, somehow, legitimate the model of approximation adopted in 1934 and kept, in broad sense, till the present. Showing the misunderstandings of this approach, on the other hand, allows comprehending that in Brazil there were always a strong approximation between State and religion, which resulted in a weak idea of secularism that has been argued nowadays.Resumo em Português:
A ideia de fetiche religioso, fruto do encontro afro-europeu na costa da Guiné há cerca de quatro séculos percorreu um longo caminho, desde seu uso por viajantes e comerciantes, passando pela sua apropriação pela filosofia iluminista, sua radicalização e popularização no positivismo e no evolucionismo, até ser criticada, entrar em declínio e ser considerada estéril pela antropologia modernista. O objetivo deste artigo é lançar uma luz sobre tal trajetória, não de maneira desinteressada, mas dentro de um contexto contemporâneo de reavaliação da ideia de fetiche enquanto ferramenta heurística, o que sugere uma paralela reavaliação da história do conceito.Resumo em Inglês:
The idea of religious fetish, which emerged from the Afro-European encounter over four centuries ago, has a rich history, from its usage by travelers and merchants; through its appropriation by Illuminist thinkers; its radicalization and popularization during the Positivist and Evolutionist periods of western philosophy; until it rapidly declined after it was criticized and pronounced inadequate by modernist anthropology. The aim of this article is to examine the path this concept described. Not from a disinterested perspective, but within the current context of reevaluation of the fetish as a heuristic category, which suggests a parallel reevaluation of the history of the concept.Resumo em Português:
Resumo: O artigo analisa dados parciais de um survey com jovens católicos em paróquias e jovens pentecostais em Igrejas da Baixada Fluminense, no Rio de Janeiro. A pesquisa mais ampla discutiu ainda representações da política e noções de desenvolvimento. A proposta do presente artigo é apresentar elementos que favoreçam o delineamento do perfil de jovens religiosos; a compreensão sobre formas de construção da identidade juvenil e, ainda, alguns aspectos comportamentais, tais como sexualidade e drogas. Os resultados indicam aproximações e diferenças desses jovens em relação aos dois segmentos analisados e quando comparados a jovens metropolitanos em geral.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract: The article analyzes partial data from a survey made with young Catholics in parishes and young people Pentecostal Churches in the Baixada Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro. The survey also discussed representation of politics and notions of development. The purpose of this article is to introduce elements that favor the outline of the profile of religious youth; provide understanding on ways of identity construction and even youth behavioral aspects such as sexuality and drugs. The results indicate similarities and differences of these young people in the two segments analyzed, and when compared to metropolitan youth in general.Resumo em Português:
Delimitar a noção da Arquitetura Pentecostal, para revelar e compreender alguns elementos espaciais, formais, simbólicos, materiais e prediais que contribuam a identificar as qualidades próprias dos templos do movimento Pentecostal chileno, é a finalidade deste artigo. Para isso primeiramente, analisa-se a dimensão material do movimento Pentecostal, pondo ênfase nos fundamentos bíblicos da ideia implícita de templo presente no discurso doutrinal. Logo, para entender de que maneira o contexto histórico e a inserção socioeconômica do movimento pentecostal se funde com a concepção teológica do templo, mencionam-se alguns marcos do desenvolvimento histórico do movimento pentecostal chileno. Finalmente, propõe-se uma interpretação da arquitetura Pentecostal, a partir do estudo de alguns templos chilenos selecionados.Resumo em Inglês:
The objective of this paper is to define the notion of "Pentecostal Architecture", to reveal and understand the spatial, formal, symbolic, material and territorial elements which help to identify the qualities of the "Pentecostal" Temples in Chile. First, the articles present the material dimension of these Temples, emphasizing the biblical idea of "Temple" implicit in the doctrinal speech. And then, the paper presents milestones in the historical development of the "Pentecostal Architecture" in Chile, to understand how history and the socialeconomical insertion of the Pentecostal movement, is related with the theological conception of "Temple". Finally, upon the study of some selected buildings, an interpretation of the Pentecostal architecture is proposed.Resumo em Português:
O trabalho descreve registros etnográficos da Festa do Círio de Nazaré, em Belém, Pará, indicando que a promoção dessa manifestação é agenciada desde bases identitárias diversificadas, gerando circuitos e fluxos que convergem para um ritual complexo e difuso. Essa promoção tem tensionado os papéis dos atores sociais e religiosos locais, que buscam se apropriar desse bem religioso e devocional, promovendo manifestações que complementam a dinâmica da festa. Tais apropriações evidenciam agenciamentos e conflitos que extrapolam a esfera religiosa propriamente dita, mas gravitam em torno da centralidade ritual da Festa do Círio. Forma-se, assim, um campo de negociações em torno das apropriações do evento, firmando um imperativo social de desempenho que orienta os projetos dos atores, como agenciamentos da religiosidade.Resumo em Inglês:
This paper describes the ethnographic records of the Círio de Nazaré Feast, in Belém, Pará, indicating that the promotion of this event has since brokered diversified bases of identity, generating circuits and flows that converge to a complex and diffuse ritual. This promotion has tensioned the roles of social and religious local actors who seek to take of this religious and devotional good and promoting events that complement the dynamic of the Feast. Such appropriations show assemblages and conflicts that go beyond the religious sphere itself, but revolve around the central ritual of the Feast of Círio. Form is thus a field of negotiations on the appropriations of the event, establishing a social imperative performance that guides the projects of the actors, such as assemblages of religiosity.Resumo em Português:
Neste artigo faço uma descrição etnográfica do "Encontro Para a Nova Consciência" - ENC, que acontece anualmente em Campina Grande-PB, no período do carnaval, desde 1992. Um evento que promove o contato inter-religioso, ao mesmo tempo em que divulga uma "leitura" de realidades com conotação terapêutica. Propõe o diálogo de práticas religiosas com temas de amplo interesse na atualidade, tais como tolerância, paz, diversidade, questões ambientais, entre outros. Um espaço aberto que incorpora a cada edição novos diálogos, o que contribui para sua permanência. O texto sublinha interações e diálogos entre atores no ENC, por meio de referências associadas à religiosidade, enquanto vivência e partilha, num horizonte de produção e difusão de práticas e conteúdos que ganham expressividade pelo reconhecimento coletivo.Resumo em Inglês:
In this article an ethnographic description of the "Meeting For New Conscience" - ENC is made, an annual event in Campina Grande-PB which takes place around carnival since 1992. This event promotes inter-religious contact as well as a "reading" of realities in a therapeutic light. It proposes a dialogue on religious practices bridging subjects of great interest to modern times, such as tolerance, peace, diversity, and environmental topics among others. An open space that incorporates new dialogues with each edition, and which contributes towards its permanence. This text underlines the interaction and dialogues between actors in the ENC, by means of references associated with religiosity, while experiencing and sharing, on a horizon of production and diffusion of practices and knowledge that will be expressed simply by being collectively recognized.Resumo em Português:
A proposta deste artigo é colocar em perspectiva crítica a última recessão realizada sobre a antropologia da religião brasileira publicada na coletânea Horizontes das Ciências Sociais no Brasil (Martins e Duarte 2010). Um dos pontos principais que abrimos para o debate neste artigo é o efeito uniformizador do campo de pesquisa que a recessão em tela promove, tornando invisível a produção norte-nordestina e por consequência, e mais fundamentalmente, a própria área de pesquisa. Nesta oportunidade, mudamos o eixo da análise e invertermos o mapa, olhando para o nosso campo de atuação acadêmico a partir da região Norte e Nordeste, identificamos algumas "agendas locais" que na realidade dialogam intensamente e compõem contemporaneamente as agendas nacional e internacional.Resumo em Inglês:
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate critically the latest general review of the field of the anthropology of religion practiced in Brazil and which was published in the anthology Horizons of the Social Sciences in Brazil (Martins and Duarte 2010). One of the main points that we highlight for discussion in this article is the effect of the homogenization of this field of research in Brazil as it is promoted by the review under scrutiny. This equalization passes over a significant part of the work done in the North and Northeast of Brazil, leaving it invisible, and hence affecting, more fundamentally, the evaluation of the state of the area of research. In a response, we change the focus of analysis and reverse the map (turn it up side down). Taking the literature produced in the North and the Northeast as the focus of our reflection, we identify some "local agenda" that actually are in dialogue with, and participates in, the contemporary national and international agendas. In conclusion, both as an ethnographic area and as an academic contribution to the literature, the North and the Northeast distinctively contribute significantly to the national and international field of the anthropology of religion.
