Contaminação do solo do Estado do Rio de Janeiro pelo Clostridíum tetani: Estudo preliminar das relações entre a composição química do solo e a presença do bacilo

The authors made a initial study about the relationship between the soil contamination by C. tetani and the chemical composition of 82 soil samples from the Estado do Rio de Janeiro (Brasil). C. tetani was found in 29.2 % of the samples. No relationship could be demonstrated between the presence of the bacillus and the amount of potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, aluminium and carbon (organic material), as well as the pH of the soil. The microbe was or was not found either in rich soils or in poor ones, as well as in acid, neutral or basic soils. It was found a correlation between the amount of calcium and the positivity of the bacillus. Since many factors may have influenced the results, the authors will study this subject more deeply.
