On June 25, 1986, the Laboratory of Entomology, School of Public Health of the University of S.Paulo, received a lot of Culicidae of the "Superintendência de Campanhas de Saúde Pública" (SUCAM) and of the "Fundação Instituto Oswaldo Cruz" (FIOCRUZ), for identification. The results are as follow.

As voucher specimens 10 adults (4 6 ) and 10 larvae were deposited at the Entomological Collection of the Laboratory of Entomology as record numbers E-7051 to E-7080.

So Ae.albopictus is now recovered in South American Territory for the first time. Accidental importation of this mosquito in continental United States was formerly reported twice, but there was no evidence of its establishment (Pratt et al., 1946 apud Reiter and Darsie3 (1984); Eads1, 1972). Nevertheless, recently this happens and now the mosquito became established in that country, probably as an achievement of transportation through containers ships from Southern Asia (Reiter and Darsie3,1984).

Both Ae.aegypti and Ae.albopictus are ecologically homologues with the possibility of to coexist in sympatry and to share the same sites as breeding places. Nevertheless the second seems to have an higher degree of outdoor and sylvatic habits than the first one. In anyway Ae. albopictus is considered to be an important dengue fever vector, and so its presence in the neotropical region arouse the convenience of its biology and behaviour studies on these new conditions (Lok2, 1985).
