In order to evaluate the agronomical efficiency of the herbicide oxadiargyl on weed control in irrigated rice (Oryza sativa L.), sowm in a drained field, an experiment was established in Mococa, SP, Brazil, in November 1993. The product was applied in pre-emergence conditions of the crop and weeds, at rates of 320, 400, 480 and 560g/ha, plus a control product (oxadiazon), used in two formulations at rates of 1,000g/ha. The results allowed to conclude that: oxadiargyl is highly efficient against Cyperus iria at all rates tested; and against Echinochloa colonum and Ischaemum rugosum at rates of 400, 480 and 560g/ha. Oxadiargyl caused light phytotoxicity to the rice plants, when applied at rates of 480 and 560g/ha, but the symptoms disappeared 60 days after application. Due to weed control, oxadiargyl caused an increase in rice yield as compared to the non-weeded control.
