A comparison between natural phosphates was performed by dry matter production in maize sowed pots (3kg) containing an Ultissol, under greenhouse conditions. Four natural phosphates (Alvorada, Catalão, Patos and Arad) were applied at the rates of 100, 150 and 200 mg P kg-1 soil, that were calculated by soluble phosphorus extracted in citric acid 2%: 1:100; 1:200 e 1:400 (g phosphate mL-1 citric acid 2%). Alvorada phosphate exhibited best dry matter production as compared to the other sources. The solubility in citric acid 2% (1:100) was important to predict the performance of natural phosphates. The recommendation of equal quantities of natural phosphate from distinct origins is not adequate because they promote different responses with respect to dry matter production.
