Feeding preference of Dione juno juno (Cramer) for passion fruit Genotypes and aqueous extract use evalution

Feeding preference of Dione juno juno (Cramer) for passion fruit genotypes was evaluated using leaf disks and 1st and 4th instar larvae in free choice and no choice tests. The following genotypes were tested: Passiflora alata, P. setacea, P. coccinea, P. cincinnata, P. nitida, hybrids P. edulis x P. giberti, P. edulis x P. alata and P. alata2 x P. macrocarpa. The presence of repellent, stimulant or deterrent on aqueous extract of leaves (recomposed lyophilized) was evaluated for the genotypes P. edulis (susceptible) and P. alata (resistant). The use of aqueous extract impregnated in paper filter and agar disks was also evaluated at several concentrations. P. alata, P. setacea, P. nitida and P. alata2 x P. macrocarpa were resistant to D. juno juno, presenting feeding nonpreference. Leaves of P. alata2 x P. macrocarpa presented high repellence. The extract of P. alata contained some substance with strong repellent action or feeding deterrent. Agar impregnated with 0.04 ml of aqueous extract of leaves was recommended for the discrimination of feeding preference of larvae of D. juno juno for passion fruit genotypes.
