THE EFFECTS OF GIBBERELLINS, CYTOKININS AND POTASSIUM NITRATE, ON `RANGPUR' LIME (Citrus limonia OSBECK) SEED GERMINATION

The effects of plant growth regulators and potassium nitrate were evaluated on `Rangpur' (Citrus limonia) lime seed germination. Seeds were extracted from ripe fruits, washed air, dried and stored at 4oC for 11 days. Seeds were then treated for 24 hours as follows: with 0.1 and 0.2% of KNO3; 50, 100 and 250 mg.L-1 of GA3; 100 mg.L-1 of phenylmethylaminepurine; 20 mg.L-1 of phenylmethylaminepurine and control. The evaluations were conducted at five day intervals, starting 15 days after sowing. The statistical analysis showed that the growth regulators did not enhance seed germination and that treatments with potassium nitrate at 0.1% and 0.2% inhibited germination.
