Open-access STAYING WITH CLASTRES AND THINKING ABOUT THE PROBLEM: THE ONE, THE PLURI, THE AGAINST. INTERVIEW/CONVERSATION

Abstract

Pierre Clastres (1934-1977) produced a twist in modern political thought based on a bold ethnographic-philosophical-political proposition grounded in other conceptual universes, especially Amerindian ones. It sought to rethink conceptions of power and politics by taking seriously these other ways of thinking that confront and challenge the so-called Western world. This interview/conversation on Clastre’s work, conducted by four ethnologists/anthropologists, proposes to reflect with Clastres, to attempt to go beyond Clastres, and to emphasize the relevance of his thought by bringing our own Amerindian ethnographic experiences and our encounters with Clastres’ concepts and formulations.
