The present article is the product of the research 'Cebes and Sanitary Reform Movement: history, politics and public health (1970-1980)' developed in Casa de Oswaldo Cruz. The research analyzes the trajectory of the Brazilian Center for Health Studies (Centro Brasileiro de Estudos da Saúde, Cebes) between 1976 and 1986. This article focus on the Center's participation in the 8th National Health Conference, held in 1986. The Journal was chosen as the source and object of study, seeking to understand its role in the interaction between researchers and public health agenda in Brazil. The use of the Revista Saúde em Debate brought visibility to the research questions relevant to the participation of members of the Center. In this process, it was observed that the creation of this journal has allowed a discussion about other ways to produce and organize information on health in the institution.
