Rehabilitation program for public safety officers alcohol users

The aim was to identify the reasons why public safety officers who used alcohol do not fully adhere to treatment and to analyze the impact of this in the professional life. A qualitative descriptive study was done with technique of content analysis. Semi-structured interview was carried out in a military hospital with 31 soldiers. The reasons for noncompliance were: physical illnesses; depression; relationships of work stress associated with health problems; denial, stigma, prejudice and discrimination; family influence; urban violence; financial conditions. It was concluded that non-adherence to full treatment results from a complex framework of personal, financial and work-related problems.
