Young people’s hopelessness and suicide as a solution

Abstract

Suicide is one of the three leading causes of death among 15 to 29 year old in the world. Understanding this phenomenon has been a great challenge for everyone. Through a literature review, this article intended to evaluate the interdependence between the complex social relations of contemporaneity, its influence on the identity construction of young people and intentional death as an exit for emotional pain. Being a serious global public health problem the numbers, even underestimated, are frightening. For every suicide that happens there are 10 to 20 attempts, and each death by suicide emotionally affects other 60 people close to the victim. It is concluded that suicide is a social phenomenon that arises as a distress call from young people to the family and society, since the events that occur in the exteriority of fragile social relations directly impact the formation of the subjectivity of being.
