New centralities under the relation town center: periphery perspective

Alterations in the cities space organization express the appearance of new areas with commercial activities, services and also a flow that express the centrality. In this process, the city discontinuity of territory and creation of new spaces representing the relation center-periphery occurs. Center-periphery relationship becomes an excellent subject in the study of new centralities since the urban morphology is modified in the face of new centralities definition and formation of other peripheries. In this way through its urban schemes the city presents a contradictory dynamics of urban spaces concentration and decentralization, redefining the relation center-periphery, offering evidences of new centralities. Therefore, the concentration and decentralization occurred in the urban space reflect in new dynamics in the intra-urban space, presenting new centralities linked to the new groups localization - companies of commerce and services, favoring space split. Finally we have the production of interior spaces in the city with its specific functions as: production, consumption, housing, and others that influence in the value of these areas, in accordance with their characteristic or type of activity. Thus, some centers with distinct functions evidenced are created first of all in metropolis and great cities and in a second moment in medium cities opposing to the old city scheme (small), with only center.
