Analysis of the hydrosedimentological dynamic in a catchment in south of Brazil

The present work had for objective to analyze the hydrosedimentological in a catchment in the south of Brazil, through the liquid discharge (Q) and the sediment concentration in suspension (C SS), monitored automatically by sensors. The Q and C SS were compared in 25 pluviometric events, happened from September, 2006 to March, 2008, in the Caeté Catchment in Alfredo Wagner City, Santa Catarina State, through regression analyses, correlation and of the behavior of the variables over the time (histerese). A maximum of C SS didn't show good correlation coefficients with the total rainfall and the maximum liquid discharge but with the maximum rainfall (intensity). The correlation coefficients between flow and C SS had Pearson's coefficient (R) greater than 0.70 in 56% of events. However, it was found that the rise of the hydrograph, the correlation coefficients are low, while in recession high. The relationship between discharge and C SS has the behavior type "eight figure" where the C SS peak precedes the discharge peak with the presence of more than one peak for event, represented by a curve in a clockwise direction, followed by another curve in the counterclockwise direction. Finally, it was found that the automatic monitoring is extremely important for understanding the dynamics of the hydrosedimentological processes, enabling continuous measurements on small time intervals (minutes) because data from large time intervals (days) may hide variations and significant behaviors of the dynamics of the hydrosedimentological processes.
