Networks, transportation systems and the new dynamics of the territory in the current period: notes about the Brazilian case

The technical systems revolution and its role in changing the space in the current period can be fully characterized by the presence of different types of geographical networks that activate the productive systems and redefine, in a global scale, the use of the territory, providing new possibilities to the material (objects, merchandise, people), and non-material flows (data, information, communication) even though that occurs everywhere, in a very different way. As the different types of networks and transportation systems do not occur in a homogeneous way in the territory and do not attend the interests of all agents, the roles of articulation of the actions and optimization of the work played by the geographical networks become restrict and limited, mainly for those places and actions that appear as being residual (without importance) to the interests of the hegemonic economic-political system. The text emphasizes this character of duality of the networks (integration/fragmentation), considerations are done from the current nature of the transportation systems. The corporative logic of introduction and use of the networks in the Brazilian transportation system show this problem and appear as a starting point so we can rethink new political strategies for the use of the networks and the territory organization as well.
