Abstract
The teaching of Sociology became compulsory in the secondary school curriculum in 2008, stimulating a debate – based especially on “State of the Art” studies – around the consolidation of Sociology as a field or subfield of research in Brazil. The reviews of this scientific production, which analyze postgraduate work, have not discussed the effects of the Professional Master’s Degree in Sociology (ProfSocio) and Law No. 13.415 of 2017, which excluded the nominal compulsory nature of this subject in secondary education. Thus, this article, methodologically oriented by the “State of the Art”, aims to update the debate on the teaching of Sociology as a research topic in Brazilian postgraduate studies, based on the CAPES Theses and Dissertations Database. The results indicate a significant increase in research, with an emphasis on the Northeastern region, when the Professional Master’s Degree is taken into account. We also noted the high level of female participation in the overall production, as well as the intrinsic, although not exclusive, relationship between the areas of Education and Social Sciences in the overall academic production.
