Reaction of head single broccoli hybrids to black rot

Two experiments were carried out under greenhouse conditions, with the objetive to evaluate the reaction of head single broccoli hybrids (AF 649, Titleist, Centenarian, Green Power, BR 068, Magestic Crown, Marathon, Laguna, Legacy, Green Parasol, Packman and Mônaco) to the black rot, caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris. For that, plants were inoculated either by cutting the leaf apex with contaminated scissors or by wounding toothpick dipped in an inoculum suspension. The inoculation occurred of 25 days after transplanting (i.e. 6 or 8 definitive leaves). Disease on leaves inoculated by scissor method was evaluated and the area under disease progress curve calculated. In the experiment using contamined toothpick, the percentage of necrosed height of stem was evaluated 26 days after inoculation. It was verified that in both experiments, 'BRO68'was more susceptible, whereas 'Marathon', 'Legacy' and 'Green Power' were more resistant to black rot.
