This study analyzes the of social assistance in Russia during 1918, the initial period of the Russian Revolution. This is a historical work based on original sources. It investigates the Bolshevik break with charity, and the implementation of a state social security system. The research addresses the creation of Narkomsobes, the dissolution of philanthropic institutions, and the rationalization of assistance. We argue that the Russian Revolution inaugurated a new paradigm of social protection.
