Open-access Between market efficiency and moralizing familism: Unicef and poor early childhood

This article demonstrates that, by refocusing early childhood on combating poverty, the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) combines neoliberal efficiency with moralizing familism. It is a documentary study involving 104 documents produced by Unicef between 1972 and 2023, anchored in historical-dialectical materialism and thematic analysis. The results highlight the centrality of the investment lexicon and its translation into devices that familiarize early childhood protection.
