Home childbirth aided by midwives in the middle of the XX century in a cultural view

This study attempted to investigate and to understand the home birth processes attended by midwives, in the middle of last century. In a study of qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory character six women, from 70 to 90 years old, that had their children in their homes helped by midwives were the subjects. The data was obtained through an open questionnaire and the interviews were all recorded, of subsequent data analysis. It was noticed that the childbirth process includes physiologic aspects, the woman's cultural values, family and community values.
