Conceptions about violence and care practices of the users of the family health strategy: a cultural perspective

This study is a research outline that aimed to identify the concepts and meanings of violence and the care giving practices of the population in the region of a Brazilian Family Health Unit. This is a field research with an exploratory, descriptive approach. The qualitative data was collected through interviews with 20 residents of the region, with a thematic analysis taking place afterwards. Regarding the issue of violence, a deep feeling of insecurity before the referred criminality was observed. Concerning the care giving practices, the definition of health was perceived as an absence of organic symptoms; seeing a doctor and self-medication when people get sick; dietetic care, physical exercise practices, and work as measures to avoid diseases. These data is considered to be determinant of the population's life conditions and taking them into account is essential in order to promote the community's health.
