Capacitation of human resources for the implementation of an infection control program

This study was performed in hospitals of São Paulo, looking to identify and discuss the difficulties related to human resources towards the implementation of the Hospital Infection Control Program (PCIH). The data was obtained through interviews with the professionals of the Service for Hospital Infection Control (SCIH) and used thematic analysis in order to identify the seven categories represented in this study. In the discussions, it became clear that the responsibility for implantation of the PCIH is not exclusive to the professionals of the SCIH, but rather the entire hospital organization and all its employees, both technical and administrative. Two orders of questions have been made clear: organizational and individual, although some individual aspects reflect the culture of the organization and the conditions of the social reality. We conclude that isolated initiatives and good will, as well as technical capability, are not sufficient if there is not an adequate infrastructure that permits the implementation of the program. Generalizing such an infrastructure is not possible, considering the specific contextual necessities that each environment demands
