This is a multicentric epidemiological study of cross section, aimed at people in treatment for abuse/dependence of drugs in the Republic of Panama. We study the comorbidity. The sample consisted of 167 inmates in 11 treatment centers. Data were collected on a questionnaire, by survey or interview. 71.3% reported use of alcohol, cannabis 73.9%, 62.3%, cocaine powder, crack 40.7%, 14.4% bazuco or pasta base. The prevalence of psychological distress is 49.1% of people with mild psychological distress, and 28.8% severe and very severe psychological distress. There is evidence of comorbidity in the population admitted to treatment centers for abuse/dependence of drugs in Panama, since 44.1% of admissions for alcohol abuse, also have a diagnosis of psychiatric disorders and 73% of admissions for consumption illicit drugs also have a diagnosis of psychiatric disorder.
