National elderly care policy and nursing's contribution

This study aimed to describe and evaluate the National Elderly Care Policy in Brazil and how it relates to nursing. A bibliographic review identified that this policy is published in the form of laws, decrees, texts, and articles in periodicals and books. The social actors involved in the National Elderly Care Policy are the elderly, their families, the community, and the health team, especially the nursing team. We conclude, based on the literature analysis, that this policy has provided the social actors involved an awareness of social justice and full guarantee of elderly rights. It was also concluded that the insertion of nursing in the National Elderly Care Policy involves the care process within the life cycle and in several levels of health care, including the elderly health, and participation in the elaboration and implementation of this policy as well.
